As he sat across from me in the pitch black thinking “why’d I bring him here.”
I found myself sitting in lotus pose in a tiny igloo structure
Mother Earth’s Womb
huddled closely around a pit with 22 humans
20 giant glowing rocks (the seeds for the womb) from the fire were carefully placed into the pit and the door was closed
My heart was racing as I began to sweat.
There was no leaving now.
The rocks sizzled as those in the middle sprinkled plant medicine on each one
The Maestro took a bucket of water & began to pour water over the rocks
The steam quickly began to fill the small space carrying the plant medicine with it
Within seconds I felt like I was suffocating
I began looking towards the door as the instinct to escape tried to take over my body.
I immediately put my mouth as close to the earth as I could gasping for air
Praying for the first time since I was a kid… for strength & stillness
Eventually gaining my composure sitting back up to challenge myself.
My skin was burning
Breathing through the nose felt like breathing fire
As I looked up into the darkness, through my long wet hair draped over my face
This warrior-like energy came over me.
I had been here before.
Barely seeing the silhouettes of those around me
we began to chant, sing, & play the drums aggressively
As our bodies began to pour all of its toxins & impurities within us
Our minds joined & began to pour all of its the negative & impure thoughts
Giving it back to Mother Earth
And she graciously took it
More rocks, more plant medicine, more water, steam, sweat, tears, chanting, singing, drumming…
Together.
After hours of this
The door opened as the final chant ended
Some exited fairly quickly
But I lied on my back covered in mud & others limbs who joined me in the final moments of letting go
A peaceful smile came to my face as a single tear rolled off my cheek and into my ear
I crawled to the light
Bowed my forehead to the earth, kissed it
“Thank You”
And went to wash myself off in the river with the rest of the tribe.
The water passed through me and took whatever was left that mother's womb had yet to take.
